Words to Live By
The Sermon on the Mount is Quite possibly the most powerful, compacted and crystalized section on Jesus’ theology in the Bible. Every phrase potent and inexhaustible in study and application.
Matt 5:1-3 Now when Jesus saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, 2 and he began to teach them. He said: 3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven
“Blessed are the poor”
A good translation of this is blessed are those who are so poor they have to beg to live.
“Blessed are the poor in spirit”
Tim Keller - It means seeing that you are deeply in debt before God, and you have no ability to even begin to redeem yourself. God's free generosity to you, at infinite cost to him, was the only thing that saved you.
“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
Luke 18: 9-14
